CueiT can turn a Microsoft Word or text document into a teleprompter script. Follow these steps to format your document and open it in CueiT.

Before You Start

Create your script in Microsoft Word or another text editor.

Save the finished script as one of these file types:

  • Word document (.docx)
  • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
  • Plain text document (.txt)

Format Your Script

1. Start Each Story With a Numbered Title

Begin each story with a number inside brackets, followed by one space and the story title.

For additional stories, change the number. CueiT uses these numbered titles to divide the document into separate stories.

[1] CAMPUS NEWS

[2] WEATHER

[3] SPORTS

2. Add the Words to Be Read

Type the spoken script as normal text below the story title.

Regular text will appear on the teleprompter for the presenter to read.

[1] CAMPUS NEWS

Good evening. Here are today’s top stories.

3. Add a Production Direction

Place production directions inside braces. This displays the direction using the production-cue style configured in CueiT.

{TAKE VO}

4. Add SOT Information

Place soundbite information inside angle brackets. This displays the information using the SOT-cue style configured in CueiT.

<SOT / STOP TALKING / RUNS: 0:22>

5. Add a Private Note

Place notes that should not appear on the teleprompter inside double brackets. The note remains visible in the CueiT editor but stays off the prompter output.

Open the Script in CueiT

  1. Open CueiT.
  2. Select the Home tab.
  3. Find the Import section.
  4. Turn on Detect Sluglines.
  5. Select File > Open.
  6. Find and open your saved script.

CueiT will use the numbered titles to create the story list.

Check the Script Before Using It

  • Make sure each numbered title appears as a separate story.
  • Make sure the spoken text is easy to read.
  • Make sure production directions appear correctly.
  • Make sure private notes do not appear on the prompter.
  • Review the entire script in the Preview window.
