Inception for MJs and Reporters
URL – http://inception.ann.usc.edu (Chrome browser is preferable)
Login – first initial, last name
Password – same as above
RUNDOWNS – go to Running Orders icon on left of top nav bar > go to ATVN or See It
Live or Sports Scene > then double click on day-of rundown
Descriptions of Rundown Columns –
Slug – name of story
Anchor – name of person reading story
Segment column – format of the story will be here
Assignees column – who writes/edits the story (may be more than one MJ)
Notes column– notes to producer, writer, editor, etc.
Submitted column – request approval for script
Approved by column – shows who approved the script
MOS abstract – CGs and ANCGs, video submitted, coding by director will show up here
MOS status – indicates when video is UNFULFILLED (not sent) and READY (ready for air)
Coded column- check mark indicates director has coded this script for air (usually after 4 p.m.)
TIMING columns –
Target timing – budgeted time for each story (this is time the producer allotting for story)
Estimated time – the time for the text/copy
Media time – time for SOTs and PKGs
Total time – estimated and media time added together
Yellow on the vertical line between Page and Slug – nothing in the script
Red on the vertical line – copy or production cue(s) are inside the script
Green on vertical line – script approved
Content locked by column- show who is currently in the script
SCRIPTS – once you open a script, it stays open and you have the LOCK on it, so no one else can edit that script!
Producer will put in production cues (e.g. Anchor, Copy, VO, SOT, etc.) Do NOT delete
Check “content locked by” to find out who is in a locked script
(EPs/Producers can move people out of scripts by clicking on Take Content Lock.)
HOT KEYS (shortcut keys!)
*SAVE out of stories once you finish working on them – Ctrl S + Q
Ctrl S – SAVE
Ctrl Q – closes windows
Alt (up arrow) and Alt (down arrow) – move to different window focus
Ctrl enter – opens a script
HOT KEYS FOR CG graphics (lower thirds; cursor must be in the script, right side column where graphics live)
ALT L – LOCATOR CG (then double click on orange bar, fill out Name (location)
ALT R – REPORTER CG (then double click on orange bar, fill out Name/Title
(sentence case)
ALT S – SOT CG (then double click on orange bar, fill out Name/Title (sentence
case)
**Note: some CG templates are already in scripts so MJ needs to double click on the orange, add location or name/title and hit UPDATE STORY.
Once CGs are created, they will be visible in MOS ABSTRACT column in rundown.
****BE SURE TO SAVE AND CLOSE SCRIPT WHEN FINISHED IN A STORY***
