How To Submit A Completed Story to Annenberg Media (for USC Professors)

For instructors:
Guidelines for submitting student work to Annenberg Media

Students in classes without assignments already tied directly to the Media Center can submit their completed stories for publication on USCAnnenbergMedia.com. Annenberg Media is a student-led organization, and work is published at the discretion of the student editors. A professor-approved submission does not guarantee publication, and publication by Annenberg Media should not be a class requirement. If you plan to encourage students to pitch to the Media Center, please share these guidelines with them. Also, this is the language we recommend for syllabi: Students are encouraged to submit their work for consideration to Annenberg Media or pitch it to mainstream media outlets. Visit http://bit.ly/SubmitAnnenbergMedia for more information about the submission and review process.

Requirements for submission
Students should submit work only after it has been graded. The draft they pitch to Annenberg Media editors must include the professor’s edits.
Each story must include AT LEAST three different sources.
All stories must have all sides represented and have a clear and objective storyline. (There are some exceptions — for first-person or opinion pieces, for example — but most stories must follow this requirement.)
Students are expected to correspond with a student editor and make any requested changes, or the story might not be published. They are responsible for checking their email and following up.
Students must get access to the Arc content management system used to publish stories to USCAnnenbergMedia.com and upload the story there themselves. They can contact Graham: stecklei@usc.edu to get access set up.
If submission to Annenberg Media is a class requirement, students must be made aware that additional changes may be required for publication.
All work will be edited according to Annenberg’s universal style guide.

Contacts
Professors can reach out to Media Center faculty with questions, suggestions, etc., but students are expected to pitch their work themselves (the process is in the student guide). For the most part, students will be corresponding with student editors. These are the designated primary contacts for questions you may have.
